For the month of November, <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ff6600;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hertoghe.eu\/en\/team\/dr-sabine-vranken\/\">Dr. Vranken<\/a> <\/strong><\/span>was keen to comment on the importance of <strong>vitamin D<\/strong>, and its <strong>anti-inflammatory<\/strong> properties, for women and how it could <strong>prevent<\/strong> breast cancer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe leaves are falling, the weather is getting cooler, sunny days are rare, we are almost in <strong>winter<\/strong>! It&#8217;s time to think about vitamin D <strong>supplementation<\/strong> because we produce our vitamin D by exposing ourselves to the <strong>sun<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>An <strong>American study<\/strong> that was done with 5000 women aged 60 or older showed that with <strong>high serum vitamin D levels<\/strong> (in the blood), the risk of <strong>breast cancer<\/strong> was 5 times lower compared to women who had a low serum vitamin D level. It is therefore advisable to supplement in winter since we will produce less. And, in Belgium, our beautiful but sunnyless country, this supplementation should continue throughout the year for people with vitamin deficiencies.<\/p>\n<p>We can also try to improve our production via our <strong>food<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<p>Foods <strong>naturally<\/strong> <strong>rich<\/strong> in vitamin D are: <strong>fatty fish, raw egg yolk, clarified butter, veal liver<\/strong> &#8230; and <strong>cod liver oil<\/strong>. Small fatty fish such as <strong>sardines<\/strong>, <strong>anchovies<\/strong>, <strong>herring<\/strong> are the least <strong>polluted<\/strong>. <strong>Tuna<\/strong> and <strong>salmon<\/strong> are unfortunately quite polluted with <strong>mercury<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Note that taking vitamin D should be done with a fatty meal because this vitamin is <strong>fat-soluble<\/strong>. This means that it will be absorbed only in the presence of fat in our digestive tract.<\/p>\n<p>It is a simple and inexpensive way for women to <strong>protect<\/strong> themselves against breast cancer and to <strong>optimize<\/strong> their <strong>health<\/strong>!\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last month we were celebrating Pink October.
